Description: The scene is nighttime Paris, year 2049. Amidst the hustle and bustle of Parisian nightlife and slumbering shops, a piercing scream cuts across the sky and, without warning, destruction. The beast at its epicenter was something out of a nightmare, a creature unlike any ever witnessed before. Scars adorned its fearsome, towering body up and down, a permanent visage of anguish etched upon its face as it tore through commercial buildings, homes, and historical pieces as if they were sandcastles. The bodies numbered in the tens of thousands. A veritable massacre, they called it. And, as quickly as it arrived, it vanished. No trace of the beast, no signs of an escape, nothing. In an instant, the most hellish being to ever walk the planet manifested, slaughtered, and receded.
Elsewhere in the world, a warm body stirred at the news reports of the tragedy with an intrigue possessed by none other. While others were writing it off as sensationalism and others ignored it and went on with their lives, one knew the truth. One knew what had happened on that night, one who had spent his very life seeking that creature.
"Could it...could it be? Hah...haha...ahahahaaa! This is it! The one! At last! Ahahaha!"
That figure rushed about intently, tossing aside papers and charts before happening upon a single book, its discovery prompting a manic grin on the man, stretch from ear to ear.
"The one! The one! Finally I have found you. Reflection of Sorrow."

Basic Premise: Set in modern times in the not-so-far future, this story follows the unraveling of a horrifying truth about humanity. A world in which all humans, regardless of age, gender, or background, have within them a unique entity. A being manifest of that person's most prevalent trait. Their "Reflection." For the majority of people, these creatures are minor and harmless, inner-demons you could think of them. They do little as they remain trapped inside, unable to escape due to their relative weakness.
But for those who are pure in some particular way (Pure of evil, pure of justice, pure of rage, etc.) these inner-creatures possess immense powers. But even so, they as well do not manifest, kept inside by the balance created by all other traits these people possess; they remain dormant within all people. Unless, of course, you possess the key.
To every inner creature there is a universal key - in the form of an incantation - which can bring out these beasts in every last person. One single man is in possession of one of these keys and the knowledge of the Reflections, passed down in his family line for generations. Believing it to be primarily useless, it went unused, dusty in the chapters of some old tome. That is, until one intersting night in Paris.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Basic Rules: Okay, so every person has an inner-creature in them called a 'Reflection', which are basically various beasts/things that they can turn into, the majority of which are pathetically weak, but some have great powers. Every person can have exactly one and only one Reflection because that is a 'Reflection' of them, get it? No repeats between people who have 'Pure Reflections' (The powerful ones) and the only exception is if you have one of the weaker 'mixed' reflections (Meaning your character is not pure in one area). Reflections are difficult to control (You really have no consciousness while transformed into one), but can be eventually with enough transformations.
Characters can live anywhere in the world and there are various ways of discovering the secret, don't make the beasts too powerful (Seriously, just be reasonable here people). To give a standard of comparison, the beast described in the opening ("The Reflection of Sorrow") is the most powerful Pure Reflection there is and the intent is that none of the others are really even close, at least not for sometime. That said, it should also be mentioned that there are two ways in which the 'Reflection' transformation occurs: naturally and summoned. Naturally is extraordinarily rare and probably won't happen often or at all in here (It requires having an enormously powerful Reflection, like the Reflection of Sorrow) whereas summoned is weaker but can eventually be controlled by the human who possesses it. Got it?
Any questions, just ask. There's a general plot direction here early on but we're gonna roll with it a bit and I'm gonna expect people to be good enough to know what's a bad idea and what's a good one. We're all pros here, yeah?
Also, technology has advanced a bit from present day, but nothing really crazy or super-powerful or anything. It really shouldn't be changed enough to make a drastic difference in anything except maybe speed of travel and communications.
