Description: At the weathered age of 44, standing at an unremarkable 5'10" and weighing in at a decent 63kg, Tobias bears a compact muscular frame, seemingly at odds with his crew cut, neat goatee, and dark blue eyes. Around the ship, he usually dons his dirtied engineering jumpsuit, rarely being bothered to change between shifts. At his waist is his utility belt, carrying his tools of the trade. On rare occasions, he can be seen clad in a heavy-duty EVA suit for situations that demand it.
Personality: Given his past, Tobias is prone to secrecy and self-preservation at all costs. Despite these seemingly asocial tendencies, he recognizes the value of allies, and as such behaves cordially towards his colleagues and shipmates, if on a purely professional basis. The one exception would be the current standing chief engineer, whom he considers an upstart who knows more about terminology then tinkering, though he still begrudgingly abides by the chain of command. On the sidelines, he is an avid experimenter, his EVA suit riddled with unsanctioned modifications and augments. In his time on board the prison ship, he has already established a number of secret stashes and alternate pathways throughout the ship's maintenance network.
History: Starting out life on the backwater mining colonies of Antares, Tobias very quickly decided that that was not where he wanted to spend the rest of his life. And so when the biennial freighter came by for pickup, it was a simple matter of stowing away in a storage crate to begin his new life. From there, he hopped from planet to planet, rarely ever serving aboard the same ship twice. Often serving in the maintenance hallways of the whichever vessel he would happen to be on board, he quickly garnered a veritable arsenal of engineering and hacking skills.
Soon enough, his experience and reputation earned him a post aboard a prison ship. The company left much to be desired, but the pay was good, and there was plenty of opportunity to tinker around. Actually keeping the inmates secure proved an insightful challenge, and so Tobias was content with his work. Few of his engineering colleagues could take the heat, but he didn't care much for them. All is well until a certain very bad day...
