Tallana is an elegantly beautiful woman, who despite having lost the supple and smooth body of her youth, has by no means lost the enchanting air of elegance - if anything her grace has increased with age and experience, and after so long in a position of authority within the college she has developed the poise and manner that only the wise can truly master. Her blue eyes are sharp and intellectual, and always give the impression that she knows everything there is to know about you, and with Scrying, that is often the case. Her hair is silvery white, having faded from the blonde colour of her youth, and she wears it short and tied up.

Personality: With a traditionalist viewpoint and a repertoire of knowledge greater than that of most  it is natural that Tallana has developed a somewhat unflattering personality of slight superiority and downright stubbornness. If she believes she is right, she will prove it, and if she isn't right then she will do everything in her power to change things so that she IS right before she even considers backing down. However, beside this stubbornness and insistence on being right, Tallana can be pleasant company, offering intellectual conversation and more than willing to pass on her knowledge to any who ask - one of her greatest joys is teaching - be it a lecture or lesson or simply answering the question of a curious servant or novice.

Tallana is also a stickler for logic, and believes emotional responses, whilst sometimes appropriate, never yield the best results. Her belief that an objective and careful approach to any situation is the best choice often makes her seem cold and uncaring, but in truth it is simply her method of approaching problems, and she does feel on the inside, she just keeps a tight reign on those emotions to prevent them inhibiting her goals. There are appropriate times to release one's emotions, and in public is not one of those times.

History: Tallana is the daughter of a farmer dwelling in the general area of Zar, a town made famous in recent years by the rise of Savrian. However, when Tallana was a girl, the community of Zar was very different. Her father, Danmar, was an average farmer dwelling in the hills approximately two miles from Zar itself. The circumstances in which he met her mother, Moira, are shrouded in mystery; the farmer reportedly stumbled upon her in the road, barely able to stand and dressed in tattered and dirtied rags. Her lustrous beauty catching his eye, he decided to take her into his home and help her regain her strength. For weeks he provided for the both of them, as well as his mother who was living with him at the time - a stern and traditionalist woman named Syl - making frequent trips to and from the town for one medicine or another from the village healer, as well as the extra food that was needed.

Eventually, the mysterious woman began to regain her strength and colour, as well as some flesh returning to her bony form. When she had recovered enough to speak, she would often request that Danmar sit with her by the fire where she lay on a tattered couch, speak with her and keep her occupied. There, Moira told him her name, and her story.

In truth, though she went by the name Moira, that was not her name - her name was Ailil Pen'Maer Zarina, a noblewoman of Calismus. She had been banished from her house after a series of events in which she defied her family and spoke against them in public - they had been tyrants, ruling over their lay of land with an cold iron fist, with no consideration for the common folk. Ailil saw the wrongness in this, and attempted to sway her parents from the unreasonable taxes and harsh penalties, but was dismissed as a foolish young girl.

After one particularly bad confrontation, she stormed away from her father's chambers swearing to him that she would take up his crimes with someone who would do something about it, the King himself! And so, that night, she took her horse and a collection of her belongings, and set out for the capital. Unfortunately for her, however, she had underestimated just how ruthless her father was, and it was not a mile away from their estate that she was assailed by men hired by her father to silence her for good. She was beaten and mugged, left for dead at the side of the road where she awoke the next day, cold and broken. Lost and afraid, she had walked with no true purpose, only knowing that she wanted to be as far away as possible from her father and family. And so it was that she encountered Danmar, and took up the name Moira, that her family might never find her again.

In their time together during Moira's recovery, she and Moira became close, and it was not long after she was fully able again that they became closer, and Danmar proposed. They were married within the month, and Moira became used to life on the farm, becoming near the perfect farm wife - if she was more demanding with regard to manners and etiquette than a born commoner might be, the couple of noblewoman and farmer only served to smooth and roughen each other's edges respectively. The next year, Moira became pregnant with their first child, Tallana.

Though Danmar and Moira had been hoping for a male child who could help his father around the farm and later inherit the land, they were still joyous upon the birth of their daughter, and showered her with love and affection, even if they could not afford to spoil her as richer families might have. For the first few years of Tallana's life, Moira raised her in the home as she had been raised herself, teaching her the correct way to behave as a lady, whilst Danmar watched on with mild amusement. Danmar's mother continued to live on, despite having reached the ripe old age of seventy nine, which was in those days near a miracle, and had her own influences on the girl, teaching her to stand up for herself and run circles around 'wool-headed men', as she called them.

When Tallana was eight, Moira once again was with child, and at the end was left with a beautiful baby boy, to this day Tallana's only sibling. They named him Matt, after the baby brother Moira left behind with her parents, though of course the two children would never learn this. Tallana took to her role as a big sister like a natural, with the determined intent to make sure he 'grew up proper'. It was when the talent scouts from the Sparsian Academy visited Zar that Tallana's life really began though (in her opinion). A girl of fifteen at the time, she insisted that her father take her in to see who would be picked, and to speak with the scholars so she could ask some questions, and eventually Danmar gave in.

In Zar itself, the town was bustling with hopeful youths, lining up to be assessed by the scouts. Tallana joined the line, not expecting to be accepted, but only to speak with the scholars, and experience what it was like to be in intellectual company (not that she didn't enjoy the company of her family and friends, but there was company and then there was company...). So impressed were the scholars by her thirst for knowledge and her aptitude for learning, as well as the knowledge already passed to her by her mother, that they offered her a place in the academy, recognising the raw potential of her mind.

The following farewells were teary and heartfelt, Tallana saying goodbye to the parents who had raised her, the brother she had nurtured, and the ageing grandmother she knew she was unlikely to see alive again. All in all, it was an occasion the woman still looks back on with mixed emotions, though she does not doubt she made the right decision in accepting the offer.

Her time in the Sparsian Academy was, to a relatively uneducated farmgirl, unbelievable. The architecture and luxury of the academy itself was awe inspiring to her untrained eyes, and the sheer feel of knowledge bursting at the seams sent shivers down her spine every time she had a quiet moment to herself. Quiet moments were few and far between however, as she quickly decided she wished to study more subjects than most pupils even considered. She went from adrenaline filled magical practice sessions, to mind boggling mathematics classes, to wondrous and enchanting history and literature lectures, soaking up the information like a sponge.

Over the many years she spent studying, however, it could be said that she lost something of herself. Gone was the wide eyed farmgirl who had first laid eyes on the entrance hall of the academy and naively wondered if they had taken a wrong turning and ended up in the royal palace itself, and in her place was a sharply intellectual and strictly superior minded scholar, a powerful mage and a demanding tutor. For even once she had completed her learning, Tallana had no desire to leave the Academy, and applied to become a teacher there not even a year later. After much consideration, her application was accepted, and she became a low ranking teacher of magic at the age of twenty five, after ten years of study as a student.

Over the half of her life Tallana has spent as a teacher, she has slowly risen through the ranks, earning the respect and admiration of one influential scholar and academic after another, until she reached the position she is in today, an admired and widely respected figure of authority, one of the Academy Masters, the most gifted teachers in the institution. She teaches less now than she did as a younger woman, however, occupied with Academy dealings and instructing the lower teachers - though she does often teach in the subjects she studied - and her few lectures and lessons are always packed, as is the case with the other masters.

One particular event of her time in teaching shines out, however, which is the day she took on an apprentice. Only five years ago, a young girl came to the academy, twelve years of age, claiming the name of Lyra Sin'désa Davindral. Her brother's granddaughter. Tallana watched the girl closely, and was impressed with the control she displayed in not seeking her out, for after all it would not have gone unnoticed that she shared her surname with one of the most influential masters, an uncommon name at that. In the end, Tallana was the one who extended the hand of friendship, inviting the girl to tea in her apartments on her fourteenth birthday. There, they discussed the girl's family, Tallana inquired of news of her brother, and was gratified to hear he had done well for himself, inheriting their parents' farm and growing it into a large estate with numerous farmhands, thanks to the increased commerce recently with the rise of Savian Yros.

By the end of that meeting, Tallana had herself a new apprentice, and the two remain close to this day, Tallana aiding the girl with private study sessions, dedicating more of her time to Lyra than to public lectures, perhaps from that suppressed paternal instinct that had been squirming within her since she had to leave her brother behind with no explanation - she had of course written, but her lack of presence would have meant that her brother barely knew anything of her beyond the memories of a small child. And so she took her granddaughter under her wing, and keeps her there to this day, helping her rise to new heights to rival even Tallana's own.
