Description:
http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs45/f/2009/140/e/6/cloak_by_sumox.jpgName: Selphina ("That's Madame Selphina to you, child.")
Age: Very, very, very, very old. ("I lost track such a long time ago, it almost seems pointless to even guess.")
Species: Selphina is one of the Fae, a very very old fae, one of the eldest - though she does not make a fuss over it. Many elder fae make a big deal of their ancient wisdom, but Selphina has simply sat quietly growing older, her immortality preserving her appearance and mind, passing from immaturity, to maturity, to over-maturity, right back to immaturity amongst the mysterious inhabitants of the Fae lands. Selphina, however, is not a traditional fairy. She has no wings, for a start, and is far from the conventional definition of 'pretty'. She is not pure, she is not morally enviable, she is not perfect - neither is she cruel, harsh and exacting. In all things, Selphina is more akin to a human, if an old and wisened one, with a slightly odd sense of humour.
Role: Teacher for the King's children, and despite their often unruly behaviour, still finds time to serve as the Head Librarian. This might have something to do with the fact that as a side effect of serving as a timekeeper as part of her duty as librarian - keeping track of histories and records for the king, there are just about as many hours in her day as she needs. Of course, abusing this advantage carries the risk of tearing huge holes in the fabric of reality, not to mention confusing anyone who sees her in two entirely unrelated places at nearly the same time.
Physical Description: Selphina isn't a particularly beautiful woman, but neither is she the wretched and wrinkeled crone that one might expect of someone so old as she. Her height varies depending on her mood, and the effect she wishes to have on others, but tends to hover and an imposing 6' 5". Her hair is black, falling to her shoulders in unkempt strands, with a fringe over her right eye, the other showing as grey, but eerily bright and piercing, with the odd effect of it appearing that no matter where she is looking it seems like she is watching you - and she is, just not always with her eyes. Her skin is a very pale grey, bordering on white, with the exception of her lips, which are darker grey as if lipstick has been applied, and then the entire body's colour removed. Selphina wears only a long and all encompassing hooded robe, black and thick. It fits her perfectly, no matter her size, and reflects all unwanted foreign substances, such as rain. While speculations have been made over whether she wears any underwear beneath this robe, they have been made very quietly, because nobody wants to make embarrassing comments about someone as quietly powerful and imposing as Selphina. Selphina wears no footwear, choosing instead to go barefoot, and her nails are painted black.
Personality: Despite the sombre and often testing nature of her role, Selphina maintains a persona that is easy to talk to, and never as serious as anyone expects. She is as willing to make a joke, or sarcastic remark as anyone. That being said, should Selphina be provoked by an unruly or troubling student, her cold fury is something to be feared.
Powers and Abilities: Selphina's abilities revolve around subtle manipulation of time, not outright halting of it, or reversal of or travel through it, but more subtle manipulations (such as the aforementioned ability to manage a lot more in a single day than any mortal usually can). She also has an array of abilities sourced from her Fae nature, which focus on the manipuilation of inanimate substances to her whim, similar to an advanced form of telekinesis, combined with the morphing and shaping of these objects/substances.
Any Other Info: As the librarian of the palace, Selphina interacts with almost every other person in the school on a regular basis, leading to her knowledge of almost every servant's and family member's name, and often a level of trust between them. Selphina disapproves of the enslavement of the humans, though as with all things she disapproves quietly. She maintains a friendship with the Prince, however, and subtly feeds him useful information.
